This large gouache from 1970 was offered to Françoise Jacquet by Alexandre Calder. She was the daughter of the owners of the hotel restaurant Le Grand Monarque in Azay-le-Rideau, which he frequented regularly, and notably during the filming of a film by Carlos Vilardebó. The Portuguese director devoted three films to Calde's work: in 1961 on "Le Cirque", in 1968 on his "Mobiles" and finally in 1973 on his "Gouaches". Azay-le-Rideau is the close neighbor of Saché. where the American artist lived from 1953 until his death in 1976.
