"I learned about the solar plate process seven years ago, while taking a printmaking class with Professor Carter Scaggs at Collin College. Historically, photogravure was the only way to make a traditional etching from a photograph or negative. It is a costly, time-consuming and labor-intensive process. The solar plate technique is a quick, cost-effective, affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditionally etching. It uses the sun for exposure and a water bath for rinsing, instead of chemical etching. I quickly became enamored with the process, especially the hands-on aspect of inking and rubbing the plate. This process is perfectly suited for The Jesse James Adventure series, since the prints have a historic aged look."
